What's inside the book

We made this book so your child can see kids with hair like theirs, having fun. It brings together the coloring pages from Curly Kids Coloring Book and Boys Are Curly Too, plus 45 new activities starring the same kids.

  • 64 coloring pages of girls and boys with puffs, braids, locs, twists, afros, Bantu knots, and more
  • Mazes, dot-to-dots, word searches, spot the difference, shadow matching, color by number, and a crossword
  • Cut-out wash day cards that walk your child through wash day, one step at a time
  • A hair care bedtime chart where your child colors a star each night they wear a bonnet or sleep on a satin pillowcase
  • A short parent guide with tips for wash day, a certificate for finishing the book, and an answer key in the back

Every activity has a star rating, so you can pick the pages that fit your child. One star (Easy) is good for ages 4 and 5, two stars (Medium) for ages 6 and 7, and three stars (Challenge) for age 8. Every coloring page and activity sits on its own page with a blank back.

Who made it

Kira Byrd (Akirashanti Byrd on the cover) is a trained barber and hairstylist who has taught textured hair care since 2008. She started by helping her oldest daughter embrace her natural hair, and she wrote her first coloring book because a child decides how she feels about her hair long before she learns how to care for it.

Kenneth Byrd is Kira's husband and the co-founder of Curl Centric. He reads the research behind the hair advice on the site. Together they run Curl Centric, where you'll find more than 950 guides to curly, coily, kinky, and wavy hair.

Questions parents ask

What ages is it for?

It's made for kids ages 4 to 8. The star ratings help you pick: Easy pages suit ages 4 and 5, Medium suits 6 and 7, and Challenge suits age 8.

Is anything printed on the back of the pages?

Every coloring page and activity sits on its own page with a blank back, so there isn't another picture or activity printed directly behind it.

Is it a digital download?

No. It's a paperback, sold on Amazon. The two free sample pages above are the only printable part.

Will my child need scissors?

A few activities ask your child to cut things out, like the wash day cards and the puzzle pieces, so you may want to help with scissors.

Where are the answers?

In the back of the book, with the page number of each activity.

Why Your Hair Isn't Growing - free guide from Curl Centric

Free 50-page guide

Your hair is already growing. The problem is keeping it.

About a third of an inch a month on textured hair, not the half inch you've read. If your length looks stuck, that's your hair breaking off about as fast as it grows in. We'll send you the seven causes of breakage and the weekly routine that stops them.
